Keith Jarrett is undoubtedly one of the great piano improvisors ever. His ability to split and play different time signatures is the stuff of legend. By the time Keith performed this ditty it was well-oiled. Perhaps not a true improvisation in that he had used this left-handed vamp in F before. However it is what’s going on in the right hand that is jaw dropping, while never breaking the forward propulsion of the left hand; complex in it’s own right. The right hand is creating what the mind conjures in real time. Simply an astonishing performance from a musical master.
